Abstract
For maximizing the profitability of cutting operations the actual condition of the used machine-tools must be precisely known. This can be done by continuous condition monitoring. Using new sensors directly embedded in the feed drive system is an enabler for simple and low-cost condition monitoring. It is possible to use the dynamic behaviour of the feed drive as an indicator for wear. This way, high availability as well as high machining precision can be ensured.
