Abstract
Due to increased requirements on existing bridges and various adjustments in the design specifications, the reassessment of prestressed concrete bridges often shows pronounced calculated deficits regarding the shear capacity, although in practice often no corresponding damages of the structure can be determined. In this context, the question of the influence of no longer permitted stirrup types on the shear capacity of prestressed concrete bridges arises. In this regard, extensive experimental investigations on a total of 14 prestressed concrete girder elements with an innovative test concept were carried out. In doing so, important new findings on the influence of the stirrup shape on the shear behavior could be gained. On the basis of the experimental investigations as well as theoretical considerations, proposals for the crediting of these stirrup types to the shear resistance were developed. The paper summarizes the results of the tests as well as basics regarding the influence of stirrup shapes and presents a design concept for taking into account no longer permitted stirrup types.
