Abstract
This article is dedicated to the memory of Professor Felix Eisele, whose work and activities in Braunschweig and Munich gave the sphere of mechanical engineering decisive impetus during the difficult period before, during and after World War Two. Professor Eisele would have celebrated his 100th birthday on 11 July 2000.
