Abstract
The conductivity change of tin oxide thick film sensors on exposure to aromatic hydrocarbons was investigated. The experiments were focused on compounds forming in smouldering and combustion processes of natural materials, e. g. paper and wood. Strong response was observed for compounds with hydroxy groups. Methoxyphenols and benzenediols evoke the highest signals.
