Abstract
Concepts and methods of evidence-based medicine are presented with regard to psychopharmacotherapy. Possibilities and limitations are critically discussed, including aspects of defining and grading evidence. Principles and standards of guideline development are described. Important guidelines for psychopharmacotherapy are mentioned. The interplay between EbM-oriented guidelines and the complexity of clinical decision-making is outlined.
