Abstract
Controlled trail to observe potential effects and defined safety aspects of a reproducible strength training regime in postmenopausal women. Over a 6 month-period of time 16 women with osteopeny performed a systematic strength- training: frequency of 2 units (week, intensity of 70 %of 1 repetition maximum: 11 exercises with first 1, later 2 sets) unit. 15 women served us control. Results verify that bone mineral density of lumbar spine and femoral neck could be stabilised and muscle strength could be improved without negative influence on parameters of haemodynamics, performance and metabolism in the group undergoing continually adapted strength training. A further effect observed in the training group was a reduction of pain levels in the lower back and an improve of overall well-being.
