Abstract
The preparation of biopticaly-removed tumors for electron microscopic investigations often yields unsatisfactory structural preservation. This is especially apparent in samples of heterogeneous density (eg. fibrous material, fatty tissues etc.), or in advanced necrotic tissues. The apparatus described here allows automatic, continual and, where necessary, temperature-controlled media changes. Together with a short preparation time, better structural preservation can be obtained for problematical tissue samples. By varying the basic unit, a preparation-cell consisting of V4A steel, the system can easily be modified, depending on the sample number, so that the volume of the media used can be kept at a minimum.
