Abstract

The viscoelastic properties of the filamentous bacteriophage fd were analyzed and compared to the cytoskeletal protein filament F-actin. The F-actin and fd filaments differed significantly with regard to polydispersity, which may strongly affect the network properties. It was found that the solutions of fd exhibit certain viscoelastic features that resemble those of solutions of F-actin of short mean filament length, including a narrow and slanted plateau region, a power law for the plateau modulus, and a terminal relaxation time.
