Abstract

Vibrational spectroscopy of matrix-isolated, mass-selected cyanoacetylene cations in neon matrices was investigated using infrared spectroscopy. The matrices containing the HC3N+ cation and its deuterated analogue were generated using mass-selective ion deposition. It is found that in spite of spraying of the sample by electrons simultaneously with the ion deposition, the degree of ion-electron recombination occuring in the cold 7 K matrix is relatively small.
