Abstract

Vibration suppression of a cantilever beam by a PZT patch in semi-active ways is demonstrated in this paper. In a resistive circuit vibration energy is converted into the electrical energy and then dissipated in the resistor, in a state-switched circuit, part of the energy can be also dissipated during switching. A model is developed and the optimal resistances are respectively determined for different circuit configurations. A new switch law is proposed for the state-switched circuit. Damping performances of these circuit configurations are simulated in numerical examples. Results show that vibration of a cantilever beam can be effectively suppressed by using the resistive circuit, or state-switched circuit.
