Abstract
In the recent years, a strong trend for decentralisation of the control technology can be observed in machine tool engineering. The objective is to create complete mechatronic modules containing decentralised control components in addition to their modularised mechanisms and installation equipment. Due to the current developments in the field of installation technology as well as to the price drop for electronic components, this objective appears to be achievable.
