Abstract

Historically amyloidosis was regarded as an orphan disease and was often treated centralized in a few specialized centers. Resulting from advances in noninvasive cardiac diagnostics, increased disease awareness and first availability of causal treatment, amyloidosis was detected more frequently in recent years and the incidence of transthyretin cardiomyopathy increased. In the context of new, albeit cost-intensive drug treatment forms, the observed developments necessitate the expansion of amyloidosis care structures. In order to provide comprehensive care of amyloidosis patients with high quality and standardized procedures, both primary care and interdisciplinary centers need to be embraced in transsectoral networks. This consensus paper describes the requirements for the implementation of such network structures with the aim to provide high-quality and timely care of patients with amyloidosis.
