Abstract
The efficient structuring of interfaces between manufacturing enterprises is increasingly becoming a focal element in the optimisation of a product's value chain; this is due to the fact that lean production methods mean that productivity potential has been exhausted to a large extent. Consequently, the resulting changes in the framework conditions place new demands on the components supplying industry, with the management of knowledge about one's own company taking a key role. Which leads to the question: do manufacturers lose know-how as a result of the increasing networking of components suppliers or do networked enterprises stimulate competition?
