Abstract
A detailed procedure regarding the planning and realization of shortened endurance tests for gear transmissions aiming at a reliable operation is presented in the scope of this paper. The methodology covers variable loads as well as single-stage loading which is often used in release testing. The general procedure is divided in two parts. First, the basic load spectrum is truncated in such a way that the decisive damage mechanism remains unchanged. Afterwards, test runs are planned and evaluated with special regard to statistical evaluation, detailed lifetime calculation and material analysis. Particular emphasis is placed on the statistical evaluation in the scope of this paper as it also allows the assessment of the reliability of gear drives under variable loads.
