Abstract

In Europe, the driving force for developments on coating of plastic films is twofold: the general trend to reduce input materials cost, and the strong motivation from the waste management side. Activities in this area fall on three areas: improvement of the barrier properties of laminates on the basis of vacuum coated BOPP films; development of specific coating sources and processes; and rear and front side films for solar modules. At present, a European Thematic Network is being set up in which more than 30 parts will pursue these activities on a wider scope.
