Abstract

A modular mechatronic system based on the major assemblies of the engine, transmission, axles and steering systems is presented. The overall concept of an integrated powertrain for performing holistic movement tasks, including the propulsion, braking, steering and load-carrying functions, is realized based on electronic actuation. The Powertrain Equipped with Intelligent Technologies (PEIT) project submitted to the EU by an association of partners should help make a major, positive contribution in this direction within the next three years.
