N2 - An introductory overview of the fundamental equations describing the special features of unsteady flows is presented. Starting with the full Navier-Stokes equations different stages of reductions down to linear potential theories are evaluated. Their scope of validity is discussed. For viscous flows attention is given to the incompressible case, whereas for inviscid flows compressibility has been retained. (A) (Microfiche)
