Abstract
As an aid in projecting axial compressors and for suitable choosing of design main parameters for computer input a certain type of compressor design maps is presented as supplement of the well-known and detailed computer programs. Main objective of the diagrams is to illustrate fundamental relations of compressor aerothermodynamics to give a view on tendencies and limits and to show correlations to centrifugal stresses in rotor blades. Coordinates are the compressor performance related to inlet density, to frontal area and to various reference velocities, and the hub-tip ratio at inlet. The maps are valid for a certain twisting law, in the presented case for the free-vortex law. By that the three-dimensional flow distribution is taken into consideration in a simplified way.
