Abstract
Agricultural use occurs both in natural ecosystems and in specially designed man-made ecosystems. The first produces a variety of semi-natural ecosystems which are mere output systems typical for low-intensity agriculture. The 2nd type, the true agro-ecosystems, are output-input systems which are intrinsically unstable, their productivity depending completely on external maintenance for stabilization. Side- and after-effects of maintenance measures, including transportation, result in continuous impacts on the agricultural landscape. The remaining (semi-) natural ecosystems are seriously affected because of lack of proper management. The exogenuous character of high agro-ecosystem productivity is compared to the high productivity of natural ecosystems situated on foothills and alluvial plains, the fertility of which depends on continuous inflow of water and nutrients from the mountains. -from English summary
