Abstract
Type-1-diabetes, being the end-result of an autoimmune disease, can today be diagnosed by autoantibody assays and metabolic tests during the prediabetic stage before onset of clinical diabetes. Thus, immune-intervention strategies aiming at the prevention of the overt disease become possible. Prophylactic therapies with nicotinamide and with insulin are currently tested in several studies. In this paper, preliminary results of the ongoing trials on insulin prophylaxis are presented. Also the future aspects of immune-intervention with T-cell-immunization are discussed.
