Abstract
Applying the method of moments to Maxwell's equations, Yee's two‐dimensional FDTD scheme with central difference approximations and the two‐dimensional TLM method are dervied from first principles of field theory. By comparing the eigenvalues of the two methods, the differences between two‐dimensional FDTD and TLM are illustrated.
