Abstract
We present a novel method for measuring the two-dimensional static endpoint stiffness of the finger for displacements in the plane of flexion and extension. We show that the endpoint stiffness is not uniform, but varies with different directions of displacement. The size, shape and orientation of an ellipse representing the endpoint stiffness of the finger, depend on the joint configuration and on the direction of the applied endpoint force.
