Abstract
The avulsion fracture of the greater tuberosity is a rare entity concerning young patients. A fall on the outstretched forearm or a shoulder dislocation are the most discussed injury patterns. A proper diagnostic evaluation is important regarding therapeutic considerations. Knowledge of fragment dislocation and fracture morphology is essential for surgical treatment. In this article a treatment algorithm is presented and current concepts of conservative and surgical approaches are reviewed. Arthroscopic procedures allow the treatment of accompanying intraarticular lesions and offer the biomechanical benefits of arthroscopic double-row rotator cuff repair with compression and restoration of the anatomical footprint. The arthroscopic surgical approach is described in detail.
