Abstract

Today, interconnected workstations provide sufficient computing power to execute complex distributed applications. But programming distributed applications is still a cumbersome and error prone task. Hence, bridging the gap between application programmers and hardware to provide completely transparent resource management is still a great challenge for operating system designers. We will present a top-down driven language-based approach to integrate application development and operating system design. Our approach results in a system which overcomes many deficiencies of existing systems. The system offers adaptable application programming interfaces as well as adaptive, distributed and transparent resource management services.
