Abstract

This publication has been presented as a result of the ongoing research projects at the chair for timber construction at the EPFL Lausanne and the Technical University in Munich. As an example we used a Timber-Ripped-Shell in nail or dowel planks for our experiments to illustrate the possibilities of this construction method, to investigate its formal mathematical analysis and to identify a calculation method according to DIN 1052, appendix F, Regarding this, it should be mentioned that the calculation method following appendix F offers a very comfortable tool with a good agreement to the mathematically precise differential calculation. This manuscript should be seen as an extension to the publications [1] to [5], which introduce the calculation methods of DIN 1052, appendix F [6] for the Timber-Ripped-Shell in nail or dowel plank. According to this method some shells have already been built. One of the most exciting and well known example are the shells of the EXPO-roof in Hanover.
