Abstract
A thermal stress testing machine was developed for investigations into high plastic deformation and relaxation of concrete in concrete dams. The cracking risk of concretes due to any real temperature history and different restraint conditions can be tested with this machine. The influence of different cements and additives were examined and recommendations are made for minimizing the cracking risk due to heat of hydration. The relationships between relaxation and tensile strain capacity of concrete are discussed. (A.J.)
