Abstract
In the mixed state of the high-temperature superconductors (HTSC's) both quasiparticles and magnetic-flux lines diffuse under the influence of a temperature gradient. The thermal diffusion of these species results in the Seebeck effect and the Nernst effect, respectively. A detailed description of the diffusion process is given taking into account the finite Hall angle of the moving quasiparticles and vortices. Our results demonstrate the impact of the Hall effect on the interpretation of experimental data on thermoelectric and thermomagnetic effects in the mixed state of HTSC's. Our model predictions agree well with the experimental data obtained from epitaxial YBa2Cu3O7-δ films.
