Abstract
This case report discusses the prehospital emergency care for an imminently dying severely ill 81-year-old patient. The emergency physician had to stepwise solve the decision dilemma of adequately limiting, then withholding life-sustaining therapy. Subsequently the problem of how to preserve the dignity of the deceased and the needs of the relatives emerged. Psychosocial, ethical and legal issues of emergency care for dying patients are discussed.
