Abstract

The application of Collective Transport Theory to quantifying an intuitive picture of nuclea collective motion is described in simple terms. Emphasis is laid on the connection to established phenomenology of nuclear structure and elementary excitations. By way of example, the "wall formula" of Swiatecki, Randrup and Koonin is cited, along with the damping of giant resonances.
