Abstract

Slow infections raise some novel issues in understanding the pathogenesis of viral diseases that have been increasingly addressed at the molecular level with in situ hybridization. These developments are reviewed as the framework for discussion of the realized and potential impact of these investigations for major neurological afflictions of humans and for AIDS.
