Abstract

The laser induced fluorescence excitation spectrum of the trichlorotrifluorobenzene radical cation in the gas phase has been obtained. The spectrum is analyzed in terms of excitation to both a1’ and e’ species vibrational modes in the B 2A2” state, consistent with the presence of Jahn-Teller perturbations in the ground X 2E” state of the ion. Comparison of the spectrum with that previously obtained in the Ne matrix environment suggests that there is little matrix perturbation.
