Abstract

The new German code (DIN 1045 neu) involved some modifications in shear design. Each of this modifications is based on tests and theoretical considerations. In the deliberations on the new German code however there were objections to introduce several rules not yet checked by practical use and new tests have been initiated therefore by the first author to check the rules in question. The test results show, that the rules of the new German code guarantee sufficient safety against shear failure also in critical combinations. To avoid large widths of diagonal cracks however the form of shear reinforcement is very important. The relevant statements of the new German code about allowable distance and anchorage of shear-reinforcement are minimum requirements not always sufficient in critical cases.
