Abstract
The Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) technology has widely been accepted in international dam engineering. RCC is placed in thin layers and compacted using earth moving equipment according to the economical placement methods applied for fill dams, Cracking in concrete dams is typically in consequence of thermal loads. Resulting from the knowledge of the actual temperature distributions in concrete dams major conclusions in respect of cracking danger may be drawn. Distributed fiber optic temperature measurements are a sophisticated tool in dam monitoring and provide a considerably higher information density compared to conventional temperature measurement systems.
