Abstract
Even today, the impact of telemedicine upon daily clinical routine is already evident in visceral surgery. The establishment of healthcare networks results in an improved collaboration between the outpatient (pre- and postoperative) and inhospital (surgical) patient care. Currently, electronic health cards for patients and health professional cards are introduced into routine service as essential preconditions for a comprehensive, integrated healthcare procurement. Even more advanced is telemedicine in the treatment of in-house patients. Hospital information systems, preoperative planning on the basis of advanced imaging, interdisciplinary therapy boards and intraoperative teleconsultation have already become state of the art.
