Abstract

Within this work, an application based comparison of electrical machines will be presented, carried out on the basis of a system approach. Today's most frequently used types of electrical machines, namely the induction machine, the switched reluctance machine, and the permanent magnet synchronous machine are used for comparison. Additionally, a fault tree analysis is presented for the electrical machine, especially for the bearings. The results show that the selection of the appropriate electrical machine highly depends on the application case.
