Abstract

We have been interested in the synthesis of organotransitionmetal-group III1complexes to serve as precursors for the deposition of intermetallic films2of specified composition using organometallic chemical vapor deposition (OMCVD).3Mixed-metal complexes such as dichloro(tetracarbonylcobalt)gallium(III) tetrahydrofuranate4or platinumbis(dimethylglyoximato)bis(di-methylgallium)5have given depositions of CoGa or PtGa26that are crystalline and highly reflective. However, these contain trace contaminations of heteroatoms derived from the ligands. On the way to synthesize other mixed metal complexes we examined the interaction of organogallium compounds with platinum derivatives that were known to give rise to reactive, coordinatively unsaturated fragments.7,8.
