Abstract

Surgery for extra-axial infratentorial mass lesions most frequently targets the cerebellopontine angle. Intraoperative neuromonitoring (IOM) focuses on methods allowing for localization of cranial nerves as well as monitoring of cranial nerves, their ascending and descending corticobulbar-pathways, and somatosensory and motor pathways within the brainstem. In large tumors, special care has to be taken for positioning. The sitting position has a high risk for air embolism.
