Abstract

Recent Borexino measurement of the 0.862 MeV 7Be solar neutrino interaction rate yielded 46.0±1.5stat-1.5syst+1.6 counts/ (day · 100 tons). This is the first direct measurement of a sub-MeV solar neutrino rate with an accuracy better than 5%. Using the latest Standard Solar Model (SSM) flux predictions, the result permits to probe with unprecedented sensitivity the transition between the matter-enhanced and vacuum-dominated neutrino oscillation regimes characteristic of the MSW-LMA solution to the solar neutrino problem. Geo-neutrinos are a unique direct probe of Earth's interior. Recently Borexino has reported the first observation at more than 3σ C.L. of geo-neutrinos. Borexino measurement of the geo-neutrinos rate is 3.9+1.6-1.3(+5.8 -3.2) events/(yr · 100 tons) with errors corresponding to a 68.3% (99.73%) C.L. Hypothesis of an active geo-reactor in the Earth's core with a power above 3 TW is rejected at 95% C.L.
