Abstract
The study of strong temperature dependence of irradiation effects in organic layers was presented. The strong temperature effects in reactions of thin organic layers to ionizing radiation was investigated. It was observed that the radiation damage of self-assembled monolayers, which were prototypes of thin organic layers and highly organized biological systems, shows a strong dependence on temperature. The two limiting cases, which include reactions involving transport of single atoms and small fragments proceed nearly independent of temperature and reactions requiring transport of heavy fragments, were identified. It was shown that the ratio of desorption to cross linking yields can be altered within a wide range simply by setting the temperature.
