Abstract
For mediumsized companies the efficient alignment of the production network is becoming increasingly important. It is essential to derive a location decision systematically and carefully weigh between opportunities and risks in order to seize the full potential of global added value. Many companies have particularly negative experiences with relocation in classic lowwage countries. Reasons can be seen in a nonsystematic decision-making process as well as an exaggerated focus on low factor costs. However, potential factor cost advantages need to be systematically taken into consideration with other cost implications and interdependencies, risks as well as evadable soft factors. In this article, a procedure model is presented in order to assess the impact of location decisions systematically and minimize risks through early implementation in the planning process.
