Abstract

In the past 25 years magnetic resonance tomography has been developed from a rarely used tool of specialists to that imaging modality, which is used next often to echocardiography in imaging of cardiac diseases. Although some myocardial functions could be depicted in the early years, morphological imaging has been predominant. Recent advances in technology and sequencing have led to a great expansion in the use of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging to include not only the study of cardiac morphology and the imaging of infarcts, but also diagnosis of other coronary artery disease, especially with use of dobutamine stress tests, adenosine perfusion studies, and noninvasive coronary angiography.
