Stability curves for thin spherical caps and hemispheres

Abstract

Stability curves for thin elastic spherical shell segments and hemispheres are computed for the clamped and the simply supported edge condition. The formulation of the shell problem due to Reissner leads to two-point value boundary problems. These nonlinear boundary value problems are solved using a shooting algorithm.
