Abstract
Over 150 different surgical methods for stabilizing dislocations of the acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) are currently described. This large number reflects the fact that each of these techniques has certain limitations. Dislocation of the ACJ with a severity grade of Rockwood I–III are conservatively treated by an in-house approach. For higher grade dislocations (Rockwood IV and V), arthroscopically assisted management was established in 2002 due to previously unsatisfactory results and considerable complication rates with open procedures. Nowadays, this type of minimally invasive surgical technique leads to good to very good results and has become established as the gold standard alongside the hook plate technique.
