Abstract

Sport psychology as a scientific and profession a discipline is growing in Australia. The community continues to develop and engage in professional activities that connect the field with both psychology and also with sport science and coaching. The College of Sport Psychologists - the equivalent to the Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Sportpsychologie - has official ties not only with the Australian Psychological Society, but also with Sports Medicine Australia. The links between applied research, professional practices, and engagement with athletes and coaches continue to evolve as the practitioners and scholars within the profession gain the respect and recognition of the sporting community. This paper provides an overview of the focus of sport psychological research, practice, and training in Australia and highlights differences to the German educational system.
