Abstract

Due to better techniques in sport climbing and better opportunities for training, we can see a marked reduction in shoulder injuries. But there is an increase in overuse injuries, especially in the overhead position of the shoulder. Another reason for overuse injuries is climbing in more and more difficult angulations and the lack of recreation of sports men. Repeated microtraumata of the rotator cuff and the superior labral complex are leading to instability of the shoulder. In the beginning this can be compensated by muscles, but bursitis, tendinitis and impingement syndromes follow due to muscular weakness. Therefore it is important to recognize the microtraumata of the rotator cuff. Also minor injuries require the aid of an orthopedic surgeon to avoid ongoing damage of the cuff.
