Abstract
A high degree of mutual adaptation and interaction appears to exist between articulation, speech signal and auditory perception. The results discussed strongly suggest that the central hearing is greatly influenced by linguistic communication, so that even such characteristics of perception which are seemingly unrelated to speech, such as the perception of musical tone affinities, ultimately have their origin in speech communication.
