Abstract
Geometric and dynamic geodetic observations are discussed with respect to their ability to monitor plate tectonic processes. Various evaluation models are summarized, and their possible application to geodynamics is discussed. The present day capabilities of available geodetic data do not fulfil the requirements for describing the global plate dynamics, but existing and forthcoming techniques should provide improved data for this purpose in the future. -Author
