Solid solution and grain size hardening of nitrogen-alloyed austenitic steels

Abstract

The influence of interstitially dissolved nitrogen on the yield strength of various austenitic steels is investigated. A Hall-Petch analysis of the yield strength is made and it is shown that nitrogen increases the yield strength by solid solution and grain size hardening.
