Abstract

Due to enormous changes within the production environment, the workload on assembly workers increases. A gaining variety of products, smaller batch sizes as well as shortened cycle times rise the cognitive load. This often leads to quality defects and productivity losses. Therefor companies integrate so called “jumpers” or “auxiliary workers” into assembly systems and their personal planning. These workers encourage the regular workforce whenever capacity peaks are reached or pauses are needed. This paper presents a method, which shows an innovative way of triggering assistance calls by using smart devices as well as the option of integrating workers with ability limitations into assembly lines.
