Abstract
Combining a highly sensitive linear (s-CRD) and a highly surface sensitive nonlinear (s-SHG) spectroscopic method, the optical response of supported silver NPs with an average diameter of ≈1.5 nm are investigated. The observed optical properties are well described by a refined version of the Mie theory that includes direction dependent dielectric constants of the medium surrounding the NPs.
